As one of the main reviewers here at Best Quality Coffee, I have the privilege of experiencing one-of-a-kind coffees sourced from around the world. Recently, I was shipped some bags of Meritage Coffee in exchange for an honest assessment of their specialty-grade brews. In this Meritage Coffee Review, we take a deeper dive into this relatively new coffee company that offers USDA organic certified and Fair Trade Certified coffee.
Before getting right into this Meritage Coffee review, allow me to offer some context. Coffee reviews are naturally subjective which is why I first try to give the reader some perspective.
Anyone who knows me will know that I think about coffee a lot. Being the coffee lover that I am, I often reflect on the qualities I appreciate most about the world's greatest drink. I love coffee most for its versatility.
Like most coffee drinkers, I definitely savor my first morning coffee as part of a daily routine. Yet, I often enjoy a balanced medium roast after dinner. Or a bright light roast at lunch on a Saturday. I even sometimes drink cold brew at sunrise in the winter. I brewed a short, stout cup just yesterday afternoon before I walked the dogs. It's in this regard that I appreciate how versatile coffee is.
Any coffee lover knows that matching the brew to the setting enriches the entire experience. Coordinating a roast with an activity amplifies the senses. The only requirement for me is the coffee must be of superior quality. There's a saying that “life's too short for bad coffee” and I cannot think of anything I want to do that calls for a burnt, bitter, or stale cup of coffee. If you're like me and love meshing a first-class coffee to your day, then you'd be interested in the premium offerings from Meritage Coffee. And here's why.
Meritage Coffee is a newer company offering a variety of whole bean and ground coffee through their website. The coffee industry is no easy place to make a name for yourself. That being the case, let's go over a few distinctions with Meritage Coffee that should give you confidence to buy without tasting first. (The company does offer a customer satisfaction guarantee though so either way, you can purchase this coffee with a peace of mind.)
Meritage is driven by a razor sharp focus on quality and it shows. They source beans from some of the most renown coffee-growing regions in the world: Colombia, Peru, Nicaragua, Honduras, Ethiopia, and Indonesia. All of their beans are then roasted in New York.
It’s hard to roast a bad bean into something wonderful and this is a concept Meritage knows intimately well. They use only Grade 1 beans which is also known as specialty-grade coffee. As a result, Meritage sources small batches, single origin beans that are of course, certified organic and Fair Trade.
For those who don't know, single origin coffee is coffee that's sourced from a single producer. This most often results in a higher quality brew that yields a more consistent flavor as compared to blends.
In addition to sourcing single origin coffee, Meritage utilizes small-batch roasting. Of course, there is extra time and energy involved in small-batch roasting, but the results are definitely worth it. Meritage roasters blend beans to create distinct flavor profiles matched perfectly to the roasting level. After spending some weeks with their 4 available blends, I can say with confidence that you can literally taste the results.
The Meritage Espresso roast with a splash of oat milk is one sweet pick me up during an overcast spring afternoon. It's a Sumatra Gayo Supreme that, true to its tasting notes, delivers a silk smooth yet syrupy body.
The New York blend medium roast, likewise, was an excellent start way to start of my day. It's masterfully balanced and offers a medium-body, perfect for those who appreciate starting their morning with full-flavored coffee. What's especially notable about this blend is how they achieve this medium roast. Rather than just medium roasting all the beans at once, Meritage Coffee artfully merges light roasted and dark roasted beans together so you can enjoy the full range of the coffee's natural flavors. You'll really taste the versatility of flavors in this blend.
Another feature that demonstrates Meritage’s commitment to quality is the focus they put on freshness. I've purchased some excellent whole bean bags at the local grocer only to come home and find the beans oiling out already. I much prefer a dry bean, especially in medium to light roasts as I believe it is a sign of freshness. Meritage nitrogen purges their packages to avoid oxygen-induced staleness and ensure the best coffee experience possible.
Meritage's New York and Breakfast Blend beans were milk chocolate brown and dry like they were just roasted yesterday. The Founder’s Reserve and Espresso beans were a yummy dark chocolate colored and equally dry.

I have tasted four of Meritage’s whole bean offerings from its medium to dark bold roasts. In every case, I found myself impressed with the high-end luxury coffee experience they delivered. Most importantly for some, the price is also very competitively priced. If you want to save an additional 15% you can use this Meritage Coffee coupon and discount code: BQC2022 until May 31.
In closing this Meritage Coffee review, I have to say the coffee is first-class and a prime example of both luxury and value. In so many respects, this is what I would define as one of those rare coffee gems that has yet to explode in popularity. As I mentioned, I love how versatile coffee is. With Meritage Coffee, it was like I had a full quiver of coffee flavors that seemed to match every setting I found myself in that called for a cup of brew. As long as I keep a few varieties of Meritage Coffee on hand, I'm confident I will have all my coffee bases covered.
