Fire Department Coffee, as its name suggests, is a coffee company run by both firefighters and veterans whose love of coffee is surpassed only by their passion for supporting charitable causes. But does this fact alone necessarily translate into coffee that's worth buying? In this Fire Department Review, we cover everything you need to know about this veteran owned company to help you determine whether it's worth spending your hard-earned coffee bucks on their brew.

Who is Fire Department Coffee?
Before discussing their coffee, let's take a brief but necessary look at the company itself. Fire Department Coffee company is both a coffee brand and a contingency of coffee loving firefighters and paramedics who have put that love into action by developing their own line of fresh roasted beans. As a veteran owned business, Fire Dept. Coffee is a veteran-owned business and certified by the National Veteran-Owned Business Association (NaVOBA). Luke Schneider, a full-time firefighter/paramedic and a U.S. Navy veteran, founded the company back in 2016. The company was inspired by the critical role that coffee plays in the daily lives of firefighters who naturally find themselves in high-stakes situations where focus and energy are paramount.
10% of the company's net profits go back to helping first responders.
Fire Department Coffee offers an impressive variety of beans all of which are roasted in Rockford, Illinois. Where as many veteran owned coffee brands offer a basic light, medium, and dark roast, Fire Department Coffee has taken their selection to the next level. FDC offers several single origin beans, savory blends, flavored coffees, spirit-infused coffees, and even decaf. I was very pleasantly surprised by the number of enticing coffee flavors they offer. They also sell their coffee in whole bean, ground, and coffee pod forms.
Among these offerings is none other than Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee which is considered one of the most exotic and sought-after beans in the world. The mere fact that they would even offer coffee of this caliber already speaks volumes about the brand and coffee connoisseurs they have backing it. Incidentally, they sent us this particular brew in exchange for an honest take on their coffee. And so without further ado, we share our experiences with this coffee in our Fire Department Coffee review.
Fire Department Coffee Review: Jamaican Blue Mountain
Their Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee is 100% pure and are grown on the Clydesdale Estate which rests on the southern slopes of Jamaica's Blue Mountain region. For those who may not know, authentic Blue Mountain Coffee is granted a special status by the Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica which was established in 1953. They hold coffee with this designation to extraordinarily high standards.

This coffee is medium roasted, allowing the natural flavors of the coffee bean to express themselves in full. As a disclaimer, while been fortunate to have sampled dozens of premium coffees from the best coffee-growing regions in the world, this was my first time trying Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee. For that alone, I thank the Fire Department Coffee Company for the opportunity.
As soon as the coffee hit my palate, I tasted a wonderful mix of chocolate, floral, and nutty notes that were true to the tasting notes on the packaging. What jumps out most about this coffee is how smooth it is. It's totally absent of the acrid bitterness you might find in something like a Pike's Place roast from Starbucks. Blue Mountain Coffee is actually well-known for the unbelievably smooth coffee experience it offers. The coffee glides off the tongue leaving no unwanted aftertaste. In fact, those who favor strength over subtlety might even consider this coffee to be “too” smooth for their tastes. Nonetheless, it offers a pleasantly balanced flavor that I think will have wide appeal. The taste is refined and not overly complex nor does it attempt to merge contradictory flavors.
I found this coffee to have an excellent flavor profile with a attractive mix of bright yet earthen flavors. Exotic would be a perfectly viable word to describe this coffee experience.
I enjoyed this coffee and yet in all honesty, as someone who prefers very strong and robust coffee, Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee wouldn't be my absolute favorite in spite of its notoriety. But again, flavor preferences are totally subjective. My opinion about this coffee is less a commentary on Fire Department Coffee the brand and more on the specific selection of bean itself.
It's also worth mentioning that while Jamaican Blue Mountain is the only brew I tried, virtually all of Fire Department Company coffees have garnered overwhelmingly positive reviews from the coffee-loving community. I'd be interested in trying some of their spirit-infused barrel aged coffees at some point.
Final Thoughts on Fire Department Coffee Company
In closing this Fire Department Coffee Review, it's clear to me that this company is doing far more than just selling high-end coffee. It's a company fueled by a passion to serve others whether it be through coffee or donating a portion of its profits to helping first responders. One thing I've learned in being a coffee reviewer for many years is that most coffee companies that place a premium on social good tend to produce the best coffee. Perhaps this ends up being the case because the company's passion for others translates into a passion for excellence in business.
Either way, Fire Department Coffee with its charitable work and impressive coffee offerings is solid example of this fact.
