As some of you may already know, I've been on the Keto lifestyle for coming up on 3.5 months [updated 1.5 years].
Yes, I keep track of time with half month increments. For those who may not know, Keto is a low carb / high fat lifestyle that has completely changed my life for the better. I won't go into my experiences with it, but if you're interested feel free to check out my Keto journey article. I don't claim to have ever had a major sweet tooth, but I do enjoy chocolate just like I do my coffee. At the start of my Keto journey, I wondered what millions of others wondered when they first started. “Can I still eat chocolate.” The answer to that question was a most fortunate yes, but it had some caveats. In this article, we'll take a look at some of these caveats along with my journey into the world of the best keto chocolate bars.
What is Keto Chocolate or Keto-Friendly Chocolate
Just to be clear, Keto chocolate isn't some new strain of cocoa plant or anything created in a lab. It's actually the exact opposite. It's pure unadulterated chocolate and in its natural untouched state, it's already Keto-friendly! A prime example of Keto-friendly chocolate is unsweetened pure dark chocolate. Obviously, milk chocolate (with its milk) is not Keto-friendly. The same thing applies for coffee. Black coffee which is coffee with no sugar or cream is just pure coffee and by default, keto-friendly. I also share my experiences with regarding the world of Keto Coffee.
Keto Chocolate is often infused with ingredients that help you reach your Keto goals. For example, many Keto chocolate bars are infused with MCT oil which helps curb appetites and improves cognitive function. They may also contain coconut oil which is powerful antioxidant.
As I mentioned earlier, I enjoy chocolate. Hearing the news that pure dark chocolate was Keto friendly was almost like hearing news that black coffee was Keto friendly. They were welcomed-luxuries I could enjoy while still reaping the benefits of a Keto lifestyle!
So I found myself a trusted Keto brand called Kiss My Keto, and decided to take the plunge into the world of some of the best Keto chocolate available. I admit that I went all out. Not only did I order 4 sizable bars of Keto chocolate, I got the ones with almonds! How wise a decision this was remains to be seen. But I'm confident I'll have the power to eat these treats responsibly. In this Kiss My Keto chocolate bar review, I'll go over my experiences with them.
Kiss My Keto Chocolate Bar Review
So let's start with the most important facts. In-spite of containing almonds, these bars contain only 2g of net carbs per serving which amounts to 1/3 of a fairly large bar. It's sugar-free, naturally sweetened with Stevia, and infused with MCT.
The packaging was top notch. To be quite honest, I've never seen chocolate packaged with such care but then again, I don't frequently purchase chocolate online. The Keto chocolate bars were bundled up in some reflective padded material to keep the chocolate cool and prevent it from melting.
I opened up the wrapper and bit into one of the pre-cut chocolate squares without trying to over think the fact that I was tasting real chocolate for the first time in a long time. This stuff was amazing. I don't know if words can fully capture how much of a culinary treat this was for me and my taste buds. Its consistency was a perfect match for what I was hoping for. It wasn't too dry or too moist. The texture was like a regular chocolate bar and a joy to experience. Being how I'd never tried keto chocolate bars before, I was somewhat concerned that these would lack flavor. That concern was totally unwarranted as this Keto chocolate offers plenty of robust chocolaty goodness.
Kiss My Keto's chocolate bars take you through two distinct phases. Initially, it tastes like a full-bodied dark cocoa flavor that's rich but not bitter. It then tapers into a natural silky sweetness no doubt courtesy of the Stevia. I also feel very satisfied after eating this chocolate and don't feel like I have to have more even though I loved the taste. There's a difference between having to fight cravings versus really enjoying something. Having been in Keto for over 3 months, I've found that my sugar sensitivity grown quite a bit which is a good thing. I feel like I've had my sugar radar totally re-calibrated since cutting out sugars from my diet. I have little doubt that a Hershey's milk chocolate bar would probably be too sweet for my tastes now.
It should be clear by now that I really enjoyed this Keto chocolate bar. If you're shopping for the best Keto chocolates, you'll immediately notice they aren't cheap. That's because using real ingredients costs more and a price I believe is a price worth paying when you consider its all about your health. What's amazing to me is that an indulgence like this was even possible while on Keto. I don't profess to be some chocolate connoisseur but I know good chocolate when I taste it. And this is quality Keto chocolate that's more than satisfied any chocolate voids in my life.
If you're a chocolate lover and a coffee drinker on Keto, I'd highly recommend checking out Kiss My Keto's coffee. I drink it for its energy-giving ingredients but to be totally honest, I enjoy it most as a chocolaty caffeinated indulgence. This chocolate flavored coffee shocked me with its bold flavor and mere 2g of net carbs. If you're looking for chocolate alternatives on Keto, Kiss My Keto coffee is definitely worth a look.
