The world of gourmet coffee is a fiercely competitive one both in terms of quality and price. In our search for the best rare yet affordable coffee gems, we arrive at a company called Real Good Coffee Co. In this Real Good Coffee review, we take a look to see if this coffee lives up to its namesake.
The company was happy to oblige our request for some samples in order for us to assess their coffee.

As is customary with our reviews here at Best Quality Coffee, let's first take a quick look at the company. No Real Good Coffee review would be complete without at least acknowledging that the company hails from the specialty coffee capitol of the world: Seattle. With over 30 years of roasting and brewing experience, Real Good Coffee is by no means a newcomer to this space. Real Good Coffee Co's mission is quite simple. To deliver the highest quality coffee possible at the most affordable price. They seek to do all of this while still being environmentally conscious.
Real Good Coffee offers their brews in the following forms:
Real Good Coffee Review: The Actual Coffee
For this Real Good Coffee review, we tried their Donut Coffee Shop brew. The Donut Shop coffee is a medium roast with bold taste and natural sweetness made from 100% Arabica beans from South and Central America. I’m a sucker for a good donut shop coffee, and if I’m being totally honest, I’m also a sucker for a donut or two as well. After grinding the beans and brewing them in my drip coffee maker, I braced myself for what I hoped would be “Real Good Coffee”.

In getting right to the point, this donut shop coffee does not disappoint. It is surprisingly bold and sweet and incredibly rich. True to its published tasting notes of brown sugar, this coffee has a subtle sweetness to it that's very refined. The coffee is not so bold that it is overpowering, but rather bold in its flavor profile and subtleties. This is also a testament to just how well this coffee was roasted. The company's previously-mentioned 3 decades of roasting experience is evident in every cup. Each sip fills your mouth with flavor without leaving behind a sour or bitter aftertaste. It's not too dry, and fills the craving of going to your local diner or donut shop for a classic cup of joe.
When you hear the term “donut shop coffee” you tend to associate it with subpar coffee, but this donut shop coffee is anything but that. It's a terrific coffee with both distinct and subtle flavors that would satisfy coffee snobs of all persuasions. Per it's tasting notes, this coffee also has hints of hazelnut and sweet plum. I would put this coffee up against any specialty coffee in terms of taste. And as someone who's had a fair share of quality brews of the finest Geisha coffees, I believe that's saying a lot.
It is truly that good.
Packaging
Something that's really cool about all of Real Good Coffee Co. products is that they all feature 100% recyclable packaging and materials. This is great for anyone who is conscious about their impact on the environment and want to make a difference any way that they can. The package is also much larger than traditional bags of coffee. They sell their beans in a bulk 2-pound bag which is very functional and efficient. I love that I have 2 lbs. of coffee beans ready to brew at any time. The bag is resealable and helps keep the beans fresh for weeks at a time.

Beyond their whole bean packaging, Real Good Coffee also offers recyclable K-Cup-compatible and Nespresso-compatible pods. This is a huge bonus in my book. The single serve coffee industry is unfortunately known for its large contributions to landfills with plastic waste. The fact that Real Good Coffee is environmentally conscious with their packaging makes drinking their coffee only more appealing.
Price
Price is always a factor when considering coffee, and this is where Real Good Coffee Co truly delivers. A 2 lb. bag of whole coffee beans retails for $29.99. This is an incredibly affordable price point and makes purchasing these beans make a lot of financial sense. Obviously, part of why they're able to be so competitive with their pricing is because they sell their coffee in bigger bags than you'll typically find. If you're new to Real Good Coffee Co, I can understand being hesitant about buying a 2lb bag of coffee you've never tried. But rest assured, their coffee is incredibly good and you'll be getting a good bang for your coffee buck.
Additionally, the company offers a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.
Variety
Fortunately, Real Good Coffee offers its robustly-flavored coffee in light, medium, and dark roasts. This is a key point because each roast differs enough to offer a distinctly unique coffee experience. Additionally, they offer an USDA organic dark roast as well as a decaf.
Conclusion
In closing this Real Good Coffee review, this is the kind of coffee that you want to drink every day. Its balanced flavor will have you regularly coming back for more. Not only is it great tasting coffee, but it comes in at a very affordable price point and packaging that makes sense not only from a use perspective, but from an environmental standpoint as well. If you are looking for a great every day coffee that's heavy on the flavor but light on the bank account – look no further than the Donut Shop Coffee from Real Good Coffee Co. Having spent good quality time with this brew, I can say that it offers exceptional value for the price. Real Good Coffee is true to its name in every way.
