The coffee world is chocked-full of trends. Some ideas gain traction and end up transforming the industry while other's are short-lived and fade away like a dream. We recently came across the concept of ultra concentrated coffee as presented by Jot Coffee.

To help me get better acquainted with this new idea, Jot happily sent us their ultra concentrated coffee which to date has garnered 4,000+ 5-star reviews. Despite the incredible Jot reviews out there, I think there was something hidden in the back of my mind that was just unsure about the concept of concentrated coffee. Doing this Jot review gave me a welcomed opportunity to expand my own coffee horizons.
What is Ultra Concentrated Coffee?
The idea is simple. You just add a tablespoon of Jot to your drink of this liquid, and within seconds, you have delicious coffee. As a long time coffee lover and coffee brewer, the concept of making coffee this way was foreign to me. As I watched the water magically transform into coffee, I had a felt a sense of child-like bewilderment and awe.
The Coffee
Jot's approach to ultra concentrated coffee focuses on purity of ingredients. It's coffee and water. There's nothing added, and nothing removed. Yet make no mistake. This is incredibly high quality coffee and you'll notice this fact immediately upon first sip.

Jot's organic and Fair Trade coffee is sourced from Central and South America.
I was floored by how good this coffee tastes. And I've certainly had my share of higher end specialty coffees. You can definitely taste a very balanced assortment of flavors that you'd typically find in a upscale light to medium roast. It's an indulgent taste that I think coffee lovers of all types will savor.
There is no burnt flavor and the brew is as smooth as can be while still being robust in body and taste. Jot tastes natural and unprocessed which is more than I can say about many “fancy” coffees I've tried in my lifetime.
Rarely do I ever say a coffee product revolutionary. But it's fair to use that term here.
What I especially like about this concept is the ease and convenience that it affords. Often times as coffee lovers, we're forced to sacrifice quality and flavor to save time. Not so here. It'd be a travesty to call this instant coffee and yet it delivers all the convenience of it. This makes an excellent choice for picky coffee lovers on the go.
I also like how flexible this concentrated coffee is. You can put it in hot water for a regular brew, cold water for a cold brew, milk for a latte, and even use it as a topping on your gelato or ice cream. It makes for a delicious accent or an equally delicious drink base.
This coffee is delicious in every sense of the word and I was thoroughly surprised by how authentic a coffee experience Jot was able to deliver.

The Process
Jot Coffee has developed a revolutionary process for extracting the maximum flavor out of every single bean. Through their technology they're able to pull out 30% more brew. This is how Jot is able to produce an ultra coffee concentrate that has truly earned the title “ultra”. As part of the companies numerous sustainability practices, they also compost 100% of their coffee grounds.
Coffee Strength
Jot Coffee also seems to deliver more caffeine than other instant coffees. This is something to be aware of if you are especially sensitive to caffeine. Instant coffee is subjected to a freeze-drying process that can often times remove important flavor and caffeine compounds. Because nothing is added or removed in the process of making Jot coffee, the final brew retains all of its natural potency.
Because of the pure strength of this coffee, I'd liken it to a strong espresso. The company claims that a cup of coffee produced with Jot can be 20x more potent than a regular cup of coffee. While I don't have any technical data to verify this, I can say for certain that it's definitely stronger than the average brew. What's nice about this delivery form is that if the coffee is too strong, you can just use less. If it's too weak, just add more.
Mixing
Another thing worth noting about Jot is how quickly and easily it mixes with water. I've tried specialty instant coffees before that dissolved poorly in liquid and as a result, took a while before the brew was drinkable. With Jot, you'll wait a mere two or so seconds.
Jot Coffee Packaging
Jot's packaging is simple, elegant, and thoughtful. The spout of the bottle was intelligently designed to make pouring easy.
The Jot kit also comes with a handy custom metal spoon. You might think this insignificant. Ever try measuring out liquid in a tablespoon and carefully pouring it into a vessel without spilling it? Jot's custom spoon contains a tablespoon's worth in volume but it's much deeper than a regular tablespoon making it much more spill proof. Again, not a make or break when it comes t the coffee, but it's thoughtful things like this that help round out the full Jot experience.

Each bottle of concentrated coffee comes with enough for about 14 cups. A single bottle is priced at $24 which comes out to $1.71 / cup. You can get the cost per cup down by buying multiple bottles at once.
Jot Review Conclusion: Ultra Concentrated Coffee at Its Best
As I mentioned at the beginning, I was a little skeptical at first. The process of brewing coffee has been thoroughly engrained in me as a ritual. So the thought of just dropping in this coffee concentrate was strange to me at first. Possibly even a little gimmicky.
However, having spent much time with this product, I can say all of my initial concerns were completely unfounded. In fact, this unassuming bottle of coffee has become one of the most important bottles of my life. It enables me the ability to drink coffee anytime, anywhere. And it's not just coffee. It's incredibly good coffee.
