Update: We recently published an article discussing how Covid-19 has affected independent coffee roasters. Humblemaker Coffee has responded with an outpouring of charity by helping their community get essentials such as eggs, milk, and bread. Read the article here.]
Regardless of preferences, I think all coffee lovers inherently know “good” coffee when they taste it. In our on-going quest to discover high-quality coffee gems, we came across an independent small-batch coffee company called Humblemaker Coffee. After telling them about our simple goal of sharing good coffee with real coffee lovers, they agreed to send us some of their coffee to test out. The following Humblemaker Coffee review will take a look at how this coffee stacks up.

We tried their Reef Roast which is a Brazilian single origin brew that's medium roasted.
The Aroma
The coffee's aroma was rich and very pleasant to the senses. In my opinion, the fragrance is stronger than most other coffees and in my book, that's nothing but a good thing.
Humblemaker Coffee Review: The Taste
I love it when my experience with a particular coffee matches the tasting notes on the packaging. It shows me that coffee brand is in tune with my taste buds.
The packaging speaks of subtle notes of almond, vanilla bean, and cinnamon. This was extremely accurate and the brew delivered a delightful combination of all three flavors. While I didn't taste a strong presence of cinnamon, the creamy vanilla flavor and malty almond flavor were distinctly present.
Do you like smooth coffee?
I'm personally a fan of smooth coffee. Brands such as Maud's Coffee and Gevalia are some of favorites. However, there are times when coffees can be too smooth for me. I've even come across Kona blends that were so smooth that I forgot I was even drinking coffee. When this happens, the coffee tastes diluted and lacks the kick I expect from a full-flavored brew.
Fortunately, Humblemaker coffee doesn't have this problem and strikes a wonderful balance between smoothness and sharpness (acridity). There's just enough of a refined bitterness to make this brew a perfect match for my personal flavor profile. I savored the deep flavor of this coffee while appreciating the delicate mix of almond and vanilla.

It's also clear that this coffee was roasted in a manner to draw out the coffee bean's natural flavor. The result is a very clean and pure tasting coffee that's absent of any artificial flavoring.
This is an ideal gourmet coffee for those who like smooth medium-bodied coffees that deliver a lightly sweet aftertaste.
As I do with all of my coffee reviews, I drink the brews black and then with cream. Drinking it black was a pleasure since I could experience the unadulterated taste of the coffee with its full range of subtleties. However, when I put cream it in, the coffee experience was taken to a whole new level of enjoyment for me. The medium body was thickened to a full-body and the existing vanilla flavor was even richer. You might as well call this my coffee heaven.
Dare I say, this is brew has earned a spot as one of my favorite medium roasts. It's just so well-balanced. As I write this Humblemaker Coffee review, I'm debating whether a fourth cup for the day would be considered overboard.

This is the type of coffee that you drink for the taste….not just the caffeine.
I'm strongly considering purchasing some of their decaf coffee as well so I don't exceed the normal human limit of caffeine.
Who is Humblemaker Coffee
Humblemaker Coffee was co-founded in 2016 Bryan Marseilles and Chris Smith. With focus on small-batch cold brews they've helped set new standards for what passes for quality coffee. The company is also committed to using only ethically-sourced and organic beans to ensure the best brew possible for its coffee-loving audience.
No Humblemaker Coffee review would complete without mention of the company's charity efforts. Beyond supplying exquisite coffee, the company also dedicates 10% of their annual proceeds to helping children with Autism. Even though this fact is brought up at the end of this review, it should not be overlooked. I think it speaks volumes that a company would commit such a sizable portion of its profits to a cause such as this. The subject of Autism is actually close to my heart so I was thrilled to hear that Humblemaker Coffee felt the same way.
In the end, Humblemaker Coffee is a company that captured both my taste buds and my heart. I highly recommend this coffee for even those that aren't partial to a medium-bodied medium roast. Its flavor and overall taste have such a universal appeal that I think coffee lovers of all types will appreciate it and find it more than worth their while.
