With my enduring attraction to coffee, I often find myself more attentive to those things that aren't just based in flavor. For example, questions like where a coffee comes from, who’s sourcing and roasting the beans, and what it looks like when I get my hands on it, are all things I’ve really come to enjoy about coffee. You’ve heard me tell of my affinity for vintage paper packaging and I absolutely love reading about those high mountain, single origin farms while I sip the hand-grown results. Recently, I have really been impressed with the more innovative coffee products such as on-the-go pour over pouches and bourbon-infused beans. With that in mind, I was thrilled to get my hands on pack of healthy cold brew shots from Humblemaker Coffee Co.
Before getting right into this Humblemaker Coffee review, let's briefly talk about who Humblemaker is. Humblemaker Coffee is a California based company. They have a storefront shop in Cali and offer subscription services as well. Anyone interested in their brews definitely needs to check out their website. In my experience, coffee seems to taste a little better when you know it was made by a quality company built on integrity. With that said, I sampled the brew before I even looked at their media so my taste buds were never under any bias. One key point is Humblemaker Coffee has a business plan where they donate a set amount of profits to enrich the lives of children with autism. Tastes pretty good, don’t it?
Humblemaker Cold Brew
I have been drinking cold brew coffee off and on for the past several years. I generally drink the offerings from the grocer and on a rare occasion brewed some of my own. There are a couple of companies in the Pacific Northwest that offer some fantastic cold brews. Like my regular coffee, I need my cold brew black, full of flavor, and without any sugar or dairy additives. Sometimes my choices are limited. Enter Humblemaker Cold Brew.
Their product checked a lot of boxes for me from the start.
First: Size
Humblemaker offers several flavors of cold brew in stout little 2 oz shots. The small plastic bottles are no doubt portable and the sealed screw tops are easy to open and drink from. Sip or drink your shot, Humblemaker makes it easy with these little guys. These cold brews are fantastic for when you want to drink coffee on the go which is not an uncommon situation for me.
Second: Brew Style
All three flavors I enjoyed were dairy and sugar free. Yet still, they delivered without a doubt, distinct flavors (see next point). They were dark roasted, full of flavor and just the way I love cold brew. Interestingly, these shots contained their own vitamin extract additives offering an all-natural, extra boost of energy and wellness. At first, I sipped a shot simply to enjoy the taste. However, during the next week or so I found myself enjoying a Boomtowne original brew mid-6 mile hike, the La Fonda Mexican brew before an afternoon run, and a Black Sea Turkish brew when I was loosing a little focus at work. These cold brew shots are fantastic and effective product in a well-designed package!
Third: Flavor
Of course, no review would complete or helpful, without talking about flavor
My favorite by a sip was the Boomtowne. Full-bodied with a real robust taste, but light in the mouth. Boomtowne has a multi-vitamin added with biotine and folate. The all-natural, espresso style shot offered a welcome energy booster with a dark roast essence that's deep and rich.
Next, I really enjoyed the La Fonda with green tea extract and vitamin C. It is brewed with cinnamon and cacao and the flavors are certainly noticeable. Perhaps a bit lighter than the Boomtowne, but no less bold. This cold brew flavor also felt distinctly light in the mouth. I noticed a great lip-smacking aftertaste, perhaps from the cacao (which is believed to have excellent anti-inflammatory properties in itself).
Finally, the Black Sea. Black Sea contains theanine, panax and ginseng. Additionally, it is brewed with real cardamom and clove. Again, a great robust flavor. It felt heavier in the mouth, likely due to the clove, but absent any tanic acid that would hint at bitterness. This was a quality cold brew that was surely equal to the ones above.
Humblemaker Review Summary
I definitely enjoyed these cold brew shots from Humblemaker Coffee and the fact that they have natural additives to improve wellness is only a plus.
I generally comment about organic beans, responsible sourcing, innovative roasting, and such. However, if a company is following a business model where they foundationally commit to giving away a significant amount of profits, they aren’t trying to get by with cutting corners. So if it makes a difference to the reader, know that Humblemaker Coffee is doing great things with the where, how, and what involving their beans and brew. You owe it to yourself to check out their site and learn more about this company. You might just find yourself invited along on their humble pursuit to make the world a better place, one sip of coffee at a time.
Note: Humblemaker Coffee also sells regular coffee as well. And it's super impressive. Check out Best Quality Coffee's full review for more information.
