Grosche Coffee is a coffee brand that's gained public notoriety for both its deliciously authentic coffee and wide-scale efforts to bring safe drinking water to remote parts of the world. In that sense, Grosche has been winning over both the taste buds and hearts of coffee lovers near and far. We recently had the opportunity to conduct a Grosche Coffee review to experience their premium coffee beans firsthand. The company was generous enough to send us a bag of their coffee, along with their best-selling Moka Pot, and 2 double-walled espresso cups. Below is our review conducted by one of our resident coffee connoisseurs who hails from Australia, a country that takes its coffee very seriously.
Grosche Coffee Review by Kate P.
Grosche's tagline is “Every cup fills another“. This hopeful message greeted me as I unpacked my delivered parcel of Grosche Coffee. Within seconds of opening it, I learn it is a company committed to change; providing safe drinking water and funding community projects throughout the world (more on that later.)
I had a chance to try their Kenyan Special Medium Roast. These beans are sourced from the Kenyan highlands where the coffee beans are grown in rich volcanic soil at an altitude of 1200 – 1400 meters above sea level. The one pound pack opens easily enough and as I grind the beans, a dark aroma awakens, from which one would expect a more bitter taste. Using the well-designed Grosche Moka Espresso Maker, I make a fresh pot of coffee on the stove. The Moka Pot has a wooden handle which I found helpful as it didn’t get too hot. Grosche also provided me with double-walled glass cups which I have never used before. They supposedly keep your coffee hotter for longer. Being Australian, we generally prefer a hot, lasting coffee temperature, so I was especially excited to put them to the test!
I evaluated the brew as an espresso with a touch of steamed milk. The taste exceeded the expectations I initially deduced from the smell of the ground beans. The brew offered a smooth, sweet flavor with an almond-like richness and there was a minimal aftertaste. The body was solid for a 6 cup Moka pot. I have found that a smaller Moka pot, say one for creating one or two shots tends to result in more body to the coffee. But this was still impressive.
The double-walled cup proved very useful! Keeping the coffee hot so I could enjoy its flavor and temperature down to the last drop! This was my first encounter with Grosche coffee. I found their ethos refreshing, their products easy to use, and best of all, a worthwhile community-minded purpose beyond its ambrosial flavor!
Grosche Safe Water Project
As we mentioned at the start of this Grosche coffee review, the company is also known for their international initiatives to bring safe drinking water to the places in need. A portion of every sale made by Grosche is goes toward a fund to help bring 50+ days of drinking water to a given area. Check out the company's Safe Water Project page to appreciate just how much of an impact the brand has made in a relatively short amount of time.
