The world of specialty coffee is a highly competitive one. Each coffee brand is looking to distinguish itself from the rest of the pack. We recently came across a boutique specialty roaster located that makes bold claims on the quality of their beans and roasting process. The brand was confident in its claims and consequently, sent us some of their coffee for a authentic take on their coffee. The following Electric City Roasting Review covers everything you need to know about this coffee to help you decide whether it's worth your hard-earned coffee dollars.
Before getting right into this Electric City Roast review, let's take a brief look at the company itself.
Who is Electric City Roasting Co.
Electric City Roasting is a boutique coffee roaster located just outside of Scranton, PA. The coffee company prides itself on not only setting incredibly high standards for their curated coffee beans, but equally high standards for their sustainable practices. Such an approach is core to the way the company operates and their efforts are captured in a statement found on their website: “It’s all about the bean.”
This bean centric way of roasting allows them to source only the highest quality beans while continuously striving to improve every step of the coffee making process. Their coffee is sourced from micro lots to ensure a high standard of coffee bean. After reading about their company and their mission, I truly feel that they are making a difference by the way they brew their coffee.
Electric City Roasting Review
For this Electric City Roasting review we take a look at two of their highly popular blends.
First off, I love the name of this coffee. It is an ode to The Office TV show and is a hilarious play on words. Before I even took a sip of this coffee I wanted to like it due to its clever name.
Boom Roasted is a dark blend of coffee with notes of nutty and cocoa flavors. I brewed my cup of Boom Roasted in a French press and drank the coffee black. I really enjoyed this cup of coffee. It was the ultimate dark roast and the flavor was bold and robust. This is the perfect cup of coffee to pair with any desert or hearty breakfast. The dark undertones of the coffee kept me coming back for another sip – each sip being more enjoyable than the last. For me, this was the perfect cup of coffee and a must-have for any dark roast lover.
If you had to choose one blend of coffee to drink for the rest of your life, Blue Moose by Electric City Roasting would be it. This coffee is a medium roast, with refined flavors of cocoa. The coffee drinks incredibly smooth and the flavors are rich and modest. This is a great cup of coffee for any occasion (perhaps that's why the packaging describes it as “All Day” coffee). I drank mine in the morning, before breakfast on an empty stomach and had no issues digesting the coffee whatsoever. For those coffee lovers with sensitive stomachs, this is a huge plus.
The coffee is remarkably smooth and easy on the stomach. I brewed my cup of Blue Moose with a French press coffee maker and found it to be a very enjoyable way to drink the coffee. I’m eager to try some in my drip coffee maker to see the difference. I could see myself drinking this coffee at any time during the day and think it would be the perfect blend to serve to guest. It is just simply a damn good cup of coffee.
I was very impressed by both coffees from Electric City Roasting Company. Both were full of flavor and had a lot of depth to them. You can definitely tell that their resident coffee experts have really dialed in these roast profiles.
I could see myself drinking both blends at different occasions; however, Boom Roasted was my favorite of the two. I personally love a good dark roast and this coffee did not disappoint. I will definitely be coming back to Electric City Roasting Company for many more bags of beans in the future. If you are looking for a great roasting company with some fantastic blends of coffee, look no further than Electric City Roasting Company.
